Welcome to the Dasher FAQ! Here you will find commonly asked questions about Dasher.

How can I start a game?

Pure rating pools The easist way to start a game is to play in the Pure rating pools, which are the most accurately rated games on ICC! To get a game in the pure rating pools, click one of the buttons in the main toolbar:

1-minute 5-minute 15-minute

The buttons tell you how many minutes you will have to complete a game. After your game has completed, you can play in the same rating pool by clicking the "Play again" button above your game board:

Play 1-minute Play 5-minute Play 15-minute

Seek a game If you prefer to play another time control, you can use the built-in seek graph to accept a player's seek or you can place your own seek, choosing the time control of your choice.

To accept a seek ad, go to the Window menu, down to Activities and then click on the Seek Ads tab. You can now click on a seek to start a game.

To seek a game, go to the Action menu and select Seek Game.... Then fill in the seek options and click OK to place your seek ad.

How can I be open for challenges?

On the main toolbar, there is a button which will show your status.  You can toggle your status by clicking this button.

When the button displays OPEN, people can challenge you.
When the button displays CLOSED, you cannot be challenged.

How can I Accept a challenge?

When you are challenged, a challenge dialogue box will appear and you can click Accept to start the game.

Where can I get the weekly schedule?

To view the weekly events, you can visit the ICC Web by going to the Web menu and selecting ICC Web.

How can I talk to my opponent?

The easiest way to talk to your opponent during or after a game is to use the chat window below the game board.

How can I contact a Helper/Admin/Member Support?

To ask a general question, you can ask the  Helpers by visiting the Help menu and selecting Ask A Question. 

To locate a server admin, go to the View menu and select Admins online. After you locate an admin, you can create a chat window to speak with the admin.

How can I watch a broadcast?

Current broadcasts are listed  in the Activities window, on the Events tab.  To locate the Events tab, go to the Window menu and select Activities.  Then select the Events tab.

How can I listen to Chess FM?

Go to the Web menu and select ICC Chess.FM to tune into the audio broadcast.  Web Menu

How can I add someone to my Friends list?

The quickest way to add a player to your friends list is to move your mouse over a player's handle until you see the cursor and right-click and select Add to 'Friends' from the player pop-up menu.

How can I see my info/history?

To view your profile and most recent games, go to the View menu and select My Profile.

How can I see my lag?

Lag measurements are shown directly on the game board.

How can I change my personal info/name/password/credit card info?

To view and update your personal information, refer to the Personal Information help file.

How can I change my password?

 Passwords are changed in the Main Console. The command to change your password is:   password old new

How can I change my settings?

To customize Dasher, go to the Edit menu and select Settings.

You can also click the  icon on Dasher's main toolbar to access the Settings menu.

How can I watch someone else's game?

The easiest way to observe a player is to right-click on their handle and select Observe from the Player Popup menu.

How can I find someone on the site?

If you know their name (or partial name), you can use the FindName feature.  You would type "tell findname name <search pattern>" in the Main Console.

How can I avoid someone?

If you want to avoid a player altogether, you can add them to your censor list.

If you want to avoid playing someone (except in the playing pools), you can add them to your noplay list.

How to join the tournament/How to follow tournament games/How to see the crosstable/How to see the list of tournaments

Current tournaments are listed in the Activities window, on the Tournaments tab.  To locate the Tournaments tab, go to the Window menu and select Activities.  Then select the Tournaments tab. Depending on the stage of the current tournament, all or some of these icons will be available:

     Information about the tournament robot.

  •   View the current tournament standings.
  •   Join or latejoin the current tournament.

    How does my rating change?

    Information about ratings and ratings changes can be found in the Ratings help section.

    Why was I disconnected, and what can I do about it?
